In the 15 business days that followed, 7 prospective executive candidates were identified with conferences in progress, and 3 were shortlisted.     The organization had recently instituted widespread changes in its senior management and a new high-profile CEO had just taken charge under intense media glare.     Our client, a US$2 billion global telecom operator, was looking to hire a Group Company Secretary in India. The client was looking at an IPO in a few years and was keen on bringing on Board, a seasoned candidate who could get the organization IPO-ready. The candidate should have had listed company experience and worked with large organizations, including possessing gravitas and charisma, to successfully communicate with the CEO, the Board of Directors, and the investment community.

  • The Mandate

    A Global Bulge Bracket Private equity fund was looking to hire it’s first India General Counsel for their market leading India investments team spread across sectors and asset classes.

  • The Challenge

    The client had a very high threshold for quality, pedigree, international qualifications but contextual India deal experience. Another critical part of their hiring process was the multiple stakeholders involved in the search process in India and internationally across jurisdictions.

  • Vahura Methodology

    Vahura ran a retained search campaign where we identified over 40 top transactional lawyers from private practice firms and other investment funds. After combing through a long list of such professionals, a comprehensive prescreening process within a short timeline was conducted around key parameters some of which turned out to be soft behavioural skills sets that turned critical for the role. Though the process was long winded at the client end eventually running into 18-20 rounds, Vahura was able to identify and discreetly manage search process for a number of targetted professionals and their cross jurisdictional team in a time and value driven process. The professional ultimately selected also needed to benchmarked to top bands within the Indian legal market. Vahura was able to provide the client with market data needed to elevate both the designation and compensation band offered to make an offer that could not be refused.
